Xiaomi is preparing to launch HyperOS 4, its next-generation operating system, and it looks set to bring major changes. Transition to Xiaomi’s Own Framework
According to well-known leaker Digital Chat Station, parts of the system framework in HyperOS 4 may be replaced with Xiaomi’s proprietary structure. However, to ensure app compatibility, Google’s standard Android services will still be maintained. This means Xiaomi is taking a realistic approach—revamping the internal structure while staying Android-based, rather than creating a completely separate OS.

Part of a Bigger Strategy
This move is part of Xiaomi’s large-scale integration plan. The company aims to combine its own chips, operating systems, and AI models into one unified platform. The XRING O1 chip, announced in 2025, was the first step in this direction. HyperOS 4 continues this independence on the software side, showing Xiaomi’s ambition to control both hardware and software.
De-MIUI Already Started in HyperOS 3.1
Reports suggest that Xiaomi has already begun removing MIUI-era SDK components in HyperOS 3.1. Apps like Weather and Gallery are being rebuilt without old MIUI code. If this continues, HyperOS 4—expected around August 2026—could become a “zero-legacy” OS, free from past dependencies.
Flutter and Rust for Flexibility
Xiaomi is reportedly rewriting system apps and base code using Google’s Flutter framework and the Rust programming language. This modular approach makes the OS more flexible, allowing apps and features to be updated individually. The result could be faster updates, better stability, and easier long-term maintenance.
