- Google Play System Updates – smaller updates that improve core features like digital wellbeing, privacy dashboard, and anti-theft functions.
These updates are important because they allow Google to push new features and security improvements directly, without waiting for phone manufacturers. However, the update process can sometimes be confusing, as users need to check a separate menu in settings.
Why Did Galaxy Phones Stop Updating?
In recent months, many Galaxy users noticed that their phones were stuck on older Google Play system versions. Reports showed that even the latest Galaxy S25 series had not received updates since July or September 2025.
Samsung confirmed to German media that the delay was intentional. The company explained that it only distributes software after thorough testing, especially when launching new models or major One UI updates. To avoid bugs and instability, Samsung temporarily paused Google Play system updates.
Interestingly, Samsung also revealed that Google itself stopped pushing updates during this period. This approach differs from Google’s original goal of delivering updates quickly without manufacturer involvement.
