Google is preparing to bring its new AirDrop-like file-sharing feature to more Pixel smartphones. Originally introduced as a highlight of the upcoming Pixel 10, the feature is now being tested on the Pixel 9 series and may eventually expand to older models.
What is Quick Share?
Quick Share is Google’s answer to Apple’s AirDrop. It allows users to send files directly between Android and iOS devices without needing third-party apps. This is a big step toward breaking down the long-standing barrier between the two operating systems.
Pixel 9 Confirmed for Quick Share
According to reports from Android Authority, the latest Android Canary builds show system files related to Quick Share added for the Pixel 9 series. These files were not present in earlier builds, suggesting Google is actively preparing the feature for existing models.
This means Pixel 9 users could soon enjoy seamless file sharing with iPhones, a feature that was initially thought to be exclusive to Pixel 10.
Pixel 9a May Have to Wait
Interestingly, the Pixel 9a does not yet include the necessary system files. This suggests Google may roll out the feature gradually, starting with higher-end models before expanding to budget versions. This approach is consistent with Google’s past strategy of testing new features on flagship devices first.
What About Older Pixels?
For now, the Pixel 8, Pixel 7, and Pixel 6 do not show signs of Quick Share support in the Canary builds. However, this does not mean they will be excluded forever. Google has a history of expanding new features to older models once stability is confirmed.

The good news for Pixel 9 owners is that they will not need to upgrade to Pixel 10 just to use Quick Share. With future updates, more Pixel users may soon experience smooth file transfers between Android and iPhone.
