MediaTek Strikes Back With Dimensity 9500
MediaTek has officially taken the fight to Qualcomm with its new Dimensity 9500 processor, launched in September 2024. After the success of the Dimensity 9400, which still couldn’t dethrone Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, the new chip arrives with promises of better performance, improved efficiency, and stronger AI processing.
According to Tech World Info, a tech and automobile analyst, “This is the first time MediaTek has truly gone head-to-head with Qualcomm and come out on top in raw benchmarks. It could shift the balance in the premium smartphone market.”
Specs at a Glance
Both chips are built on TSMC’s advanced 3nm process, but MediaTek uses the newer N3P node, while Qualcomm relies on N3E. This gives Dimensity a slight edge in efficiency.
- CPU: Dimensity 9500 (1×4.21GHz + 3×3.5GHz + 4×2.7GHz) vs Snapdragon 8 Elite (2×4.32GHz + 6×3.53GHz)
- GPU: Mali-G1 Ultra (12 cores, 120fps ray tracing) vs Adreno 830 (ray tracing support)
- Memory: Both support LPDDR5X up to 5.3GHz
- Storage: Dimensity UFS 4.1 vs Snapdragon UFS 4.0
- Connectivity: Snapdragon leads in 5G speeds, Dimensity wins in Wi-Fi 7
Benchmark Results

Geekbench 6
- Dimensity 9500: 3,452 (single-core), 10,128 (multi-core)
- Snapdragon 8 Elite: 3,047 (single-core), 9,286 (multi-core) Dimensity is 13% faster in single-core and 9% faster in multi-core.
AnTuTu v11

- Dimensity 9500: 3,622,840
- Snapdragon 8 Elite: 2,981,542 A 22% overall lead, with GPU performance up by 25%.
3DMark Wild Life Extreme

- Dimensity 9500: 7,163 (peak), 4,230 (sustained)
- Snapdragon 8 Elite: 4,809 (peak), 3,625 (sustained) Dimensity shows better endurance, less heat, and stronger long-term stability.
AI, Cameras & Connectivity
- AI: Dimensity uses MediaTek NPU 990, Snapdragon uses Hexagon NPU. Both support generative AI, but Snapdragon has more advanced semantic segmentation.
- Cameras: Both support up to 320MP and 8K recording.
- Connectivity: Snapdragon dominates in 5G (up to 10Gbps), while Dimensity leads in Wi-Fi 7 speeds (up to 7.3Gbps).
Final Verdict
The benchmarks clearly show that Dimensity 9500 has overtaken Snapdragon 8 Elite in CPU, GPU, and overall performance. Gaming, multitasking, and long-term stability are all stronger on MediaTek’s chip. Qualcomm still holds an edge in 5G, but MediaTek’s Wi-Fi advantage and efficiency gains make it a serious contender.
As Tech World Info notes, “If more flagship devices adopt the Dimensity 9500, we could see a real shift in the high-end smartphone market, breaking Qualcomm’s long dominance.”
