Google is preparing to roll out the Android 16 QPR3 update for Pixel devices in March. Unlike monthly security patches, QPR (Quarterly Platform Release) updates bring noticeable new features and usability improvements. This time, six major changes are expected that will make everyday use of Pixel phones smoother and more flexible.
- Hide “At a Glance” Widget
Pixel users will finally be able to remove the At a Glance widget from the home screen. While the widget is useful for showing date, weather, and appointments, many users disliked how it limited icon placement. With QPR3, you can hide it from the home screen while still keeping it visible on the lock screen.
- Adjustable Flashlight Brightness
Until now, the flashlight could only be turned on or off. With QPR3, you can adjust the brightness using a slider. This is handy for situations like taking photos in low light or using softer lighting before bedtime.
- New Navigation Button Layout
For users who prefer three-button navigation over gestures, QPR3 adds a new option. Previously, Pixel devices used the order “Back, Home, History.” Now, you can switch to the familiar Samsung-style layout “History, Home, Back.” This makes it easier for users migrating from other brands.
- Clearer Adaptive Connectivity Settings
Adaptive Connectivity, which automatically switches between Wi-Fi and mobile data, has been redesigned. In QPR3, the functions are split into two:
- Switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data when the signal is weak.
- Choosing the best network to save battery.
Users can now turn these options on or off individually, making the behavior easier to understand and control.
- Redesigned System Settings Page
The System settings page has been reorganized for clarity. Items are grouped into categories like updates, language, input, and operation settings. The software update option is now placed at the top, making it easier to check for updates quickly.
- Clearer Location Usage Indicator
Privacy gets a boost with a new blue indicator in the status bar whenever an app is using location services. Opening the notification panel shows which apps are accessing your location, and you can adjust permissions or close the app directly from there. This gives users more control and peace of mind.
